Lo Barnechea, Chile

 

Lo Barnechea Chamber of Commerce welcomes Tyler Sister Cities delegates. Unveiling a plaque identifying the Parque de las Rosas (Park of the Roses) in Lo Barnechea in tribute to the Tyler Sister Cities relationship is Lo Barnechea Mayor Marta Ehlers Bustamente.  The park opened during the May, 2004, visit by Tyler residents including Tyler Sister Cities President and Police Chief Gary Swindle, center.

 

  Lo Barnechea children visit a dental clinic offering free treatment and exams during school. Tyler Sister Cities delegates observed both dental and medical programs during their ’04 Lo Barnechea visit.   Low income residents of the community receive the medical care through funding from the wealthy municipality and Chile’s Ministry of Health offers a variety of resources for all citizens  through a national insurance system. Teachers accompany the class so that lessons are not disrupted during clinics.

 

 

A newly organized youth orchestra in Lo Barnechea performs for the Tyler visitors. Shown presenting a gift to the conductor is 2004 Tyler Sister Cities vice president, Betty Bower.


A puppet show
at the Lo Barnechea children’s library drew approval from Tyler representatives Wanda Joyce, Tyler City Councilwoman Joyce Scurry, and Evalyn Free during their May ’04 visit.
